This week I made the jump from indoor swimming pool to outdoor sea pool. This might not seem a big deal to most but I get terrified swimming in the sea – the poor visibility, the unknown, the creatures around me, potential jellyfish or sharks.
I keep putting myself through sea swims to get over the fear. That never really happens. So, as I contemplate doing the Wedding Cake Island 2.4km sea swim next weekend, I still haven’t completed a proper swim in the ocean in Australia.
Wylie’s Baths are amazing but the tide was high and the water choppy. Underwater bubbles from the waves made it hard to see and my heart rate felt like it was through the roof. I have no idea if I am going to be able to do the swim next weekend. Time will tell. It’s good to put myself out of my comfort zone.
I am also improving loads with my climbing. I am week 5 of 6 into a beginner’s course and loving it. I have met a great bunch of people to climb with and each week I get braver and dare myself to do more challenging things.
Food and exercise this week has felt a distinctly average effort. I am not one to make excuses but I have found it more difficult with the pressures of work to be as creative and healthy as normal. My will power has wavered and I haven’t exercised as much as I would have liked. Next week I will do better!
